Saint-Gobain Glass had an enhanced presence at the 2023 FIT Show at the Birmingham’s NEC this week. Glass experts were on hand to talk about the comfort benefits of glass, while the company’s new mobile closed-loop post-consumer glass crushing machine was also on display.
Residential Market Manager Kirsty Pamment presented a seminar entitled ‘Have a different conversation about glass’. During the session, Kirsty explained the opportunity for fabricators and installers to maximise sales opportunities and differentiate their business by promoting the role that glass plays in creating more comfortable homes.
Kirsty said: “We were delighted to share our knowledge about how you can help homeowners to choose the right type of glass for their home. Glass really makes the difference – whether it’s retaining heat, reducing overheating, increasing security, reducing noise or helping to prevent the sun from fading furniture. We have a wide range of literature, plus our Planitherm Network, to help fabricators and installers get these messages across – and ultimately sell more value-added glass and provide enhanced customer service.”
Marketing Director Mike Butterick presented a seminar called ‘Remanufacturing Post-Consumer Window Glass’. The session detailed how Saint-Gobain Glass is working to deliver a sustainable closed-loop process for window glass by turning end-of-life window glass into new high-performance windows.
Built inside a shipping container for easy transportation, the branded mobile crusher on show was created in response to increased requests from customers to recycle old glass. It forms part of Saint-Gobain’s sustainability strategy to continue to pioneer the collection and recycling of old window glass, which can then be used to make new high-performance glass for residential and commercial buildings.
Mike Butterick: “The glass crusher is mobile so it can be taken to large building refurbishment projects, where the old glass can be crushed into cullet on site before being transported back to our factory and made into new high-performance glass. This is just one of our tools to help enable the UK to meet its climate change targets and meet our purpose, which is to ‘make the world a better home’.”
